Melbourne – North-east Victoria is set to shine as the 2008 National Rally of Mercedes-Benz Car Clubs gets underway this weekend 19-20 th April 2008. Staged every two years, the national rally is hosted by one of the six authorised Australian Mercedes-Benz car clubs.

This year, the Mercedes-Benz Car Club of Victoria ( Details at bottom) hosts the biennial gathering, which will see more than 120 stunning Mercedes-Benz vehicles come together for what will be an impressive display of some of Australia’s most valuable and admired cars. Many have undergone extensive restoration work, and all have been carefully preserved to be enjoyed for years to come.

The star-studded event gives members an opportunity to collectively celebrate the passion and pride that comes with owning the oldest and one of the greatest automotive marques in the world.

The collection of cars being showcased this weekend ( 19-20 th April 2008 ) demonstrates the time-honoured hallmarks of quality, luxury and refinement that have made Mercedes-Benz and its iconic three-pointed star famous the world over.

The variety of cars participating include some instantly-recognisable Mercedes-Benz models, such as the timeless W 113 ‘Pagoda’ SL roadster and the luxurious and powerful W 109-model 300 SEL 6.3, the car that started it all for AMG, Mercedes-Benz’s high-performance division, over forty years ago.

This year’s national rally will commence at Albury on Friday evening, with a stunning car display at Oddies Park on Saturday. A drive to historic Beechworth will follow before returning to Albury for the evening.

Sunday will see the impressive collection of Mercedes-Benz cars make the 350 kilometre drive to Lakes Entrance via the Great Alpine Road and the beautiful Victorian township of Bright, famous for its Autumn colours.

Managing director for Mercedes-Benz Cars in Australia, Horst von Sanden, said
showcasing the dedication of so many enthusiastic owners clearly illustrates the allure and fascination of Mercedes-Benz.

“This year’s national rally is a wonderful celebration of the excellence and innovation that has charcterised our cars since Karl Benz patented the first car back in 1886,” said von Sanden.
“Mercedes-Benz has a long and rich history in creating some of the most fascinating cars the world has ever seen and preserving them for the future is very important.

“It’s not only our company’s collection of rare and historically-significant cars in our
Stuttgart Museum that reminds everyone of the magnificent heritage Mercedes-Benz enjoys; it’s the many dedicated enthusiasts who have passionately invested their efforts in preserving their wonderful cars so today’s generation can see the rich history which makes Mercedes-Benz so captivating,” concluded von Sanden.
